Avoid using the two Editors from Steam

Greetings fellow Cultures veterans!

Yesterday I found out that the Steam version of the editor (both RNN and DAW) seem to have a flaw, to say the least.
I was unable to see any strings in-game despite having properly exported the c2m file.
Here's a link: http://s32.postimg.org/98fnmb6mt/no_strings.png

As you can see nothing is being shown. So I decided to do an experiment - to export one of my very old test maps, and to my surprise the newly exported file had the same issue.
So my invitation to you - for all the other members who own the Steam version, I want you to keep this in mind. Make sure you don't export your maps with those two editors.

Regards, Phantowm

Wild guess: You saved after exporting, and have your c2e files in the same folder you exported to?
That is a grave design flaw on Funatics' part, because c2m ≠ c2m.
For maps in editable state, the editor uses both c2e and c2m files, while for exported maps, those are combined into a single c2m file.
Despite the two c2m files having exactly the same name if saved to the same directory, their contents differ.
So if you happen to save your c2e files to the usermaps folder (which I believe is the suggested location), you can either save your map after exporting, which will simply undo the exporting process, or not save after exporting, which will leave the c2m in a playable state, but break the map's editability.

I always create a separate subfolder for the map, therefore I can distinguish the two c2m files since only one of them contains the strings required. I do admit though, in the past I used to save the map after exporting but it turned out fine for me. I just found out recently you shouldn't do this, from the documentation. I definitely agree with you on the editability part - I had to make some changes to one of my maps, the location radius kept resetting to 40. While on the other map the whole text was gone and I had to type it all over again if I wanted to make a change. So now I think I'll make a text file for every map containing all the strings. Is this a sufficient solution?

I don't think I've ever had the problem(s) you describe... the only thing I've ever ran into was the strings not appearing in-game, which only happens if you copy or move the c2m from the editor save location to the usermaps folder, instead of using the export function of the editor.
I never had the editor not bringing up the strings anymore...

Well, I can't confirm that this is a constant issue. Today I've checked it only happens to one map. Maybe it's because I copied it since I originally made it with the Steam version of the editor.
