Some terms for translating maps

Beitrag von NorthernLight » Mo 16. Apr 2018, 21:27

Dear English Cultures fans,

I hope you can help me. I'm currently translating some Cultures maps into English and need the following information which I couldn't find in the abundant word lists that I already received from Tommy, SaCoMa and Dreamchild.

I need to know the following:

1) Are the terms for the diplomacy status "friendly", "neutral" and "hostile"? If not, what else are they called?

2) What is the button called which you see when you exit a ship and you want to exit all passengers at once? Is it "Exit all" or something else?

Hopeful regards

1) Yes.

2) It's called Unload.

Brilliant! Thanks a lot, Phantowm!

There might be some other unclear terms but in order to avoid asking one question for each I'm going to wait if more pop up in this translation project.

Hello again!

There are several English terms I want to confirm with you because I have differing versions in some cases and in others I'm not sure about the programmers' version and the game's version. I want to get it right for the English game users.

Please tell me: What are the correct English equivalents in the game for the following German terms (I know the list is long, forgive me, but it's once and for all as far as these words are concerned, promised!) :)

Baubrief > letter of constructon ? construction letter? else?

Baumenü > menu of construction? construction menu? else?

Viehzüchterei > sheep and cattle farm? animal farm? breedery? else?

Diplomatiemenü > diplomacy menu? menu of diplomacy? else?

Abbauer > miner? collector? else?

Lehmabbauer (as an example for the various types of "Abbauer") > clay miner/collector? miner/collector of clay?

Kräutergärtner > herb and mush guy?

Händler > trader? merchant?

Schneehase > white rabbit/hare? snow rabbit/hare? else?

Killerhase > evil hare? else?

Nahrungstrank > food potion?

Stärketrank > strength potion?

Wachtrank > stamina potion?

Stärkeamulett > amulet of strength?

Nahrungsamulett > amulet of food?

Verteidigungsamulett > amulet of defense?

Wachbleibeamulett > amulet of stamina?

Trefferamulett > amulet of critical hit(s)?

Windamulett > amulet of speed?

Steinblock > stone

Bruchstein > quarrystone

Öl > oil? holy oil?

Dachziegel > tile?

Backstein > brick?

Kuchen > cake? candy?

10 Holz (representative example) > 10 wood? 10 units of wood? else?

The types of soldiers, representative examples:

Langbogenschütze > longbow soldier? soldier with (a) longbow? else?

Eisenspeerträger > iron spear soldier? iron spear carrier? else?

Waffenrock > wool armor? (should actually be "tunic" I think)

Lederrüstung > leather armor?

Thank you in advance for your time and effort, I appreciate it a lot!

Warm regards

Hi Phantowm [very interesting play on words, by the way :) ],

Thank you so very, very much for your help!!! That's simply brilliant – the screenshots too!

Just one clarifying question is left: I'm not quite sure if I got you right about the rabbits. Killer rabbit is clear.

But the others: Are "blue hare" and "Rabbit" just two words for the same animal, i. e. the white snow rabbits? Or are "blue hares" the white ones when there's snow and the "rabbits" the normal brown ones?

That's all. Your valuable list will contribute, alongside with the others I got, to future English maps which hopefully won't cause any confusion. :)))

Have a good start into the new week.

Thanks again that you have so kindly taken the time and made the effort to help.

Warm regards

Hi Phantowm,

ahem, sorry, another term just popped up which needs clarifying (I obviously overlooked it before; I really hope it will be the last one):

Do they say "profession", "career" or "occupation" or anything else in the game? And what is the menu in the school called when you go there to train someone for a certain occupation?

I apologise for this supplement.

Warm regards

Hello NorthernLight,

No need to apologise, feel free to ask anything. ;)

Now to your questions:
- Apart from the Killer Rabbit, there are only 2 "bunnies" I've seen in the game: Blue Hare and Rabbit. So I'm led to believe these are different types of the same animal yes.

- It's called profession. The menu you're referring to is simply titled Learn Profession, as you can see on the attachment.

Kindest regards,
Phantowm
